Campus Cadix wins ARC 22 Architecture Award
From the three nominated projects, after intense deliberation and much discussion, the jury chose Campus Cadix as the winner. The program in this winning project is special; it proudly places a vocational school at the center of society and in a neighborhood that is gentrifying. The school is still one of the few places where a broad cross-section and diversity of society come together.
The spatial quality and integration into the existing urban environment is one of the most important (and most difficult) programs of today. Campus Cadix is an exceptionally successful example of this, particularly in its approach to the complexity of the task through all layers. Interventions were based on a thorough analysis and appreciation of the existing architecture. The improvement approach that came about by looking beyond the boundaries of the assignment is also worthy of much appreciation and demonstrates the critical attitude required of an architect.
The designers met the complexity of this task-with-long-breath without letting the focus slip. Korteknie Stuhlmacher Architects showed great responsibility in this project and demonstrates the value of some form of independence in the process. Thus Campus Cadix illustrates that good architecture is also about attitude: where do you stand as an architect in the profession, what do you allow yourself to be guided by?
